Welcome back everyone!
This past weekend I headed out to the Arboretum in Daegu, Korea with a couple friends. My goal was to try and get some portraits for this project like I’ve seen on several different sites before. However, I just didn’t notice anyone that inspired me to do it. I wasn’t feeling it. What I did find though was a lot of couples and families enjoying the good weather and spending some quality time in nature. I can’t explain why, but I was drawn to them. What I ended up doing instead was to find families and couples trying to take pictures of each other with their phones and I offered to take one of them together. I then took a couple shots with my camera and told them where they could go to download the pictures.
I got many smiles and thanks from a lot of people and felt really good about what I had done. It was fantastic. I got into a zone where I wasn’t thinking about anything else and spent most of our time there hunting for people I could help. I love being able to share my time and skills with people and give them something nice in the process. Therefore, I am re-branding the Street Portrait Project into a Portrait Sharing project.
After spending the afternoon taking pictures of people I have also realized that I need to slow down a little and be more careful with my composition and exposure. I got so focused on just taking the pictures that I forgot a few of the basic rules, so there are a couple shots that are not completely clear, and I’m pretty sure I cut off a hand or two. But, that’s one of the reasons I wanted to take on this project in the first place, to get more practice shooting portraits.
Here are a couple shots from that day. If you would like to see the others just click on the Street Portrait link a the top of the page.
Also, on Sunday I had the chance to do a portrait shoot with a model during a flash workshop. I’ll be posting those shots in a few days. If you have any tips or advice for this type of project I would love to hear them. Just leave a comment below. And don’t forget to like and share if you enjoy this kind of stuff.
